Jane Merrow, Photos 11-15

#11: Super delicious plant ovaries! Once fully developed though, we normal people call these things fruit. After having been fertilized by pollen, the plant germinates and grows through the style to the ovary. They are protecting the embryo of a new plant, and help with seed dispersal.






#12: My sister, Martha, is a eukaryote. All of her cells have a nucleus and multiple complex structures enclosed by membranes. Within the nucleus of her cells are genetic material, which makes cell duplication different and more complicated than that of prokaryotes. This eukaryotic organism in particular is very different and compicated...





#13: This is a frond of a fern plant, aka, a large divided leaf. Most biologists only apply the term to the leaves of fern plants, but others apply it to other plants with leaves that look like this.








#14: So, we didn't have corn still on the cob, so I had to make do with the frozen stuff we had. Nevertheless, corn is a C4 plant. These plants tend to fare better than C3 plants in hotter, dryer conditions by bypassing the photorespiration pathway and separating its processes of carbon fixation and the synthesis of organic material into two different parts of its anatomy.




#15: Although it kind of grosses me out, the tendon in my wrist is sticking out in this photo. This kind of connective tissue helps maintain the structure of my body, connect muscles to epithelial cells and other bodily tissues, and help with energy storage. Other kind of connective tissues are ligament, cartilage, bone, and blood.

A eukaryote with attitude...I like it! :) I think you have very lovely tendons, if I do say so myself! :)
