Hannah 6-10

6) C4 Plants
A Cactus is an example of a C4 plant. This means that these types of plants have a better survival rate in hot, dry conditions that receive little water, like in the dessert. This is because the Calvin Cycle in C4 plants is a two step process that help the plant maintain higher levels of CO2 than oxygen, unlike C3 Plants, which helps them to avoid photorespiration.


7) A plant Cuticle
A plants cuticle is the waxy, shiny, top layer on the plants leaves. The cuticle acts as a protective layer from the outer environment and the plants inner environment. It also helps to reduce water loss.


8) Ethylene
Ethylene is a chemical produced by fruits during the ripening process. This chemical helps to accelerate plant growth, so that the fruit can be eaten. My example of this is in the picture of ripe strawberries.


9) C3 Plant
My example of a C3 plant is a potatoe. A C3 plant differs from a C4 plant because C3 can't live in hot, dry conditions like C4 plants. In a C3 plant, when CO2 concentration in the plants lessens, instead of fixing carbon in the Calvin Cycle, it fixes oxygen instead which wastes energy.


10) Endotherm
My example of an endotherm is a rabbit. (I wasn't able to use my special object in this picture because I didn't want to scare it away, I randomly found it at my Nana's house.) The term endotherm refers to mammals and birds meaning they are warm blooded. This means that mammals and birds can maintain their own body temperature and adapt to their environment.
